GEOS 595: GIS/GPS for Alaska Teachers
This is a special course for science and geography grade 8-12 teachers of Alaskan Schools. It is an intense two week course covering the basic principles and hands on experience in GPS measurements, Geographic Informations Systems (GIS) and map making. Teachers learn how to use geospatial data (point measurements, aerial photos, satellite images, map data and other information) for developing small projects of significance in their local regions and schools.
This course is sponsored by the Alaska Space Grant Program. The course material is in part derived from a related course GEOS378: Introduction to Geoinformatics that was introduced at UAF through the support of the ESSE21 program. The course was given for the first time in the summer of 2004.
The dates for this year's course are: June 6-18, 2005
